Toward Nightfall
Sometimes you get lucky and have the good fortune of seeing a spectacular sunset and say WOW. This winter the twilight skies have been striking with colors of deep orange, sienna and dark purple. A painter's delight and hopefully a pleasure and treasure for the viewer.

#New Pacific Northwest Painting
"Yaquina Head Lighthouse"
My friend, photographer Gary Hamburgh asked if I would paint his beautiful photograph of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse that is near Newport, Oregon. I told him I would try to paint my impression of the scene and after several weeks, I think I've finished. Here's a little bit about it. This is the tallest lighthouse in Oregon (93 feet) and Wikipedia had some interesting facts. Early in its existence it was known as "Cape Foulweather Lighthouse" and was built between 1871 and 1873. The lighthouse still uses its original 1868 French made, 1st order, Fixed Fresnel lens, visible 19 miles (31 km.) out to sea and the lighthouse is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Please visit Gary's website at www.garyhamburgh.com to see his extraordinary photographs of the Pacific Northwest.
