Midtown Manhattan, The High Rent District

Midtown Manhattan, The High Rent District

Everyone is raving about the new watercolor ground (gesso) where you can paint watercolor on any surface.  I thought I would give it a try.  After brushing it on and waiting 24 hours for it to dry, I used my regular watercolors to paint this scene of the Chrysler Building on a canvas panel.  It was interesting to see that it really worked and the paint could be easily manipulated.  I think I would use it again and would give it a B+, but there is no comparison.  I would never give up my beautiful watercolor paper that I know so well.

I would love to hear your thoughts about watercolor gesso.
